WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
Please Help Support the City of Newton’s ITEP Grant Application!
The City of Newton is currently seeking community input and letters of support for its application for an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) grant.
The proposed project would create approximately 3,700 linear feet of pedestrian and multi-use pathway utilizing part of the former railroad corridor. The proposed route would connect downtown Newton to Newton Elementary School and the Jasper County Boys & Girls Ball Park, providing a safer and more connected non-motorized transportation route.
The project is intended to:
•Improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity throughout Newton
• Provide a safer alternative route to Illinois Route 130
• Improve access to schools, businesses, civic facilities, and recreational destinations
• Provide a safe and accessible route for residents of all ages and abilities
• Build upon Newton’s existing pedestrian infrastructure and previous ITEP investments
• Establish a foundation for future expansion of the City’s pedestrian and bicycle network
Residents, businesses, organizations, parents, and community members are encouraged to provide letters of support regarding the proposed project. Your input will help demonstrate the community’s need for and support of this transportation improvement.
Letters of support may be submitted to:
