CITY OF NEWTON, ILLINOIS
WATER PLANT OPERATOR
The City of Newton, Illinois, is accepting applications for the position of Water Treatment Plant Operator. This is a full-time position responsible for the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the City’s water treatment facilities in compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Operation and monitoring of water treatment plant processes and equipment
- Collection of water samples and performance of laboratory testing as required by IEPA and EPA standards
- Recording and maintaining operational data, logs, and reports
- Adjustment of chemical feed systems and treatment processes
- Inspection, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment and facilities
- Preparation and submission of regulatory reports
- Response to alarms, system issues, and emergency situations
- Coordination with other personnel and departments as needed
- Compliance with all safety practices and regulatory requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Class A, B, C, or D Water Treatment Plant Operator License
- Three (3) or more years of experience in water treatment operations
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within a specified period
Pay and Benefits:
Pay rate is commensurate with certification level and experience. The City of Newton offers a competitive benefits package, including participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), health insurance, and paid leave.
