The City of Newton is NOW HIRING a Water Plant Operator Department Head

WATER PLANT OPERATOR

The City of Newton, Illinois, is accepting applications for the position of Water Treatment Plant Operator. This is a full-time position responsible for the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the City’s water treatment facilities in compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Operation and monitoring of water treatment plant processes and equipment
  • Collection of water samples and performance of laboratory testing as required by IEPA and EPA standards
  • Recording and maintaining operational data, logs, and reports
  • Adjustment of chemical feed systems and treatment processes
  • Inspection, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment and facilities
  • Preparation and submission of regulatory reports
  • Response to alarms, system issues, and emergency situations
  • Coordination with other personnel and departments as needed
  • Compliance with all safety practices and regulatory requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois Class A, B, C, or D Water Treatment Plant Operator License
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in water treatment operations
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within a specified period

 Pay and Benefits:

Pay rate is commensurate with certification level and experience. The City of Newton offers a competitive benefits package, including participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), health insurance, and paid leave.
