As a general rule, law enforcement agencies investigate crime and the State’s Attorney’s Office prosecutes cases presented to us by law enforcement. All crimes should be reported to the law enforcement agency for the area where the crime occurred. If there is reason to believe that the law enforcement agency has conducted an improper investigation or acted in bad faith, then it may be brought to the attention of the State’s Attorney’s Office to follow up on those matters.

The State’s Attorney’s Office has no jurisdiction over police agencies. You should contact the employer of the officer immediately so that they can start an internal investigation. If you believe that a crime has been committed by an officer, you should contact the law enforcement agency for the area where the crime occurred. If it is the same agency that employs the officer, then contact the Illinois State Police or Jasper County Sheriff’s Department as well as the officer’s agency so that an investigation can be conducted.

No, you need to consult with a private attorney. The State’s Attorney’s Office can not represent private citizens in civil cases, or private citizens with legal advice.
The State’s Attorney cannot talk to individuals that are represented by an attorney. IF YOU ARE NOT REPRESENTED BY AN ATTORNEY, you can call the office and setup an appointment to speak with the State’s Attorney.
REQUEST TO REVIEW PUBLIC DOCUMENTS AND ORDER DUPLICATED COPIES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT, SECTION 3a OF THE LOCAL RECORDS ACT INSTRUCTION FOR MAKING A REQUEST TO REVIEW PUBLIC DOCUMENTS:
In order to process requests from citizens to review and request copies of public documents in accordance with the act, an application to review the documents and order the same must be filed with the County of Jasper. No orders for documents will be taken over the telephone or verbally. Written requests for documents may be accompanied by the County application form. This form will allow the County to respond to requests for documents in a prompt and complete manner. Request forms are available at the County Clerk’s Office, at the link below, or a form can be mailed to you upon request. Completed request forms may be e-mailed to the State’s Attorney [email protected], mailed to the County Clerk’s Office, delivered to the County Clerk’s Office in person, or dropped in the drop box at the County Building when the office is closed.
