• Discussion of Fiscal Year 2026 ITEP Grant Application Proposed Project:
  • Approximately 3,700 linear feet of pedestrian and multi-use pathway utilizing part of the former railroad corridor. The proposed route would connect downtown Newton to Newton Elementary School and the Jasper County Boys & Girls Ball Park, providing a safer and more connected non-motorized transportation route.

The project is intended to:

• Improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity throughout Newton
  • Provide a safer alternative route to Illinois Route 130
  • Improve access to schools, businesses, civic facilities, and recreational destinations
  • Provide a safe and accessible route for residents of all ages and abilities
  • Build upon Newton’s existing pedestrian infrastructure and previous ITEP investments
  • Establish a foundation for future expansion of the City’s pedestrian and bicycle network
