The proposed route would connect downtown Newton to Newton Elementary School and the Jasper County Boys & Girls Ball Park\, providing a safer and more connected non-motorized transportation route.\n\n\n\nThe project is intended to: \n\nImprove pedestrian and bicycle connectivity throughout Newton\n• Provide a safer alternative route to Illinois Route 130\n• Improve access to schools\, businesses\, civic facilities\, and recreational destinations\n• Provide a safe and accessible route for residents of all ages and abilities\n• Build upon Newton’s existing pedestrian infrastructure and previous ITEP investments\n• Establish a foundation for future expansion of the City’s pedestrian and bicycle network\n\n\nPublic Comments\nApproval of Resolution Committing 20% matching funds.\n\n

Van Buren Street\, Newton\, IL 62448\, a hearing will be held by the Mayor and the City Council of the City of Newton to consider the proposed vacation of an alley as described below: East-West public alley running approximately 400’ feet from Walnut St. to Stevens St. of Anna Stevens Subdivision\, now City of Newton\, Jasper County\, Illinois\, according to the original Plat\, of the City of Newton\, dated June 28\, 1841\, Recorded in Deed Record A\, at  Page 332 of the Books and Records of the Clerk and Recorder of Jasper County\, Illinois.   Legal parcel numbers include the following:  90-12-01-301-001\, 90-12-01-301-002\, 90-12-01-301-003\, 90-12-01-301-004\, 90-12-01-301-005\, 90-12-01-301-006 and 90-12-01-301-010\, 90-12-01-301-009\, 90-12-01-301-007.  All interested persons will be heard on the proposed vacation and are invited to appear at the time and place listed above. Interested persons are also encouraged to submit written comments on the proposal to the City of Newton at 108 N.
